For our next venture with clay, I wanted the artists to learn how to roll pieces of clay into slabs. We took the pieces of slab and placed them into styrofoam bowls to hold the shape of the bowl while they dried. To add the final touch to our bowls before they dried, we looked at diagrams of flowers and used pipe cleaners to make stamens and pistols to rise out of the center of each flower bowl. Once the bowls were dried, we read the book Through Georgia’s Eyes and looked at many of her flower paintings. These were the inspiration for the types of flowers or the use of color while we painted our bowls.
