We have been learning about traditional Navajo weaving. We read the book The Goat in the Rug by Charles Blood about the process of weaving a blanket from shearing the goat, washing and combing the wool, dyeing it, prepping the loom strings, and finally the side to side and over and under process of weaving the wool. A study from the 1970s estimates it takes over 300 hours to complete one blanket! We used Popsicle looms with pipe cleaner strings and used ribbon for our wool. Most students had never woven before but loved the challenge! #minimonetsart #youngartists #weaving #navajoart #lovethiscity #beauty
