Japanese Notan with Watercolor Wash and Geometric Shape Border

For the last project in October, we looked at Japanese Notan. Notan is a dark light design where the positive and negative space creates a balance. For my younger students, we cut out basic geometric shapes to create our Notans. The older artists were encouraged to use different types of lines to create more organic looking Notans. We collaged our Notans on top of a watercolor wash background with a geometric shape border.
